It’s been quite some time/jams

Wow, these last weeks have been fully charged with tons of things to do on Deadlock and some cool events occurring in the same time!

Briefly, we implemented a new component in the game: Spark system!
Sparks must be collected by the player to complete the game: they unlock small shortcuts within the main story levels as well as mini-levels dedicated to time attack for the ‘Speedrun Mode’..

We also attended the DemoNight in Montreal organized by IGDA’s local chapter and had the chance to meet Rami Ismail who is definitely a really cool and inspiring person!

In the meantime there were multiple jams I participated to, like the Ludum Dare 48 for which we made a silly (but nice looking) game called ‘Last Call’ and more recently the Global Game Jam 2014 that was incredibly fun and for which I made ‘Rachrosh’ with 2 friends.

Last but not least, if everything goes fine we should be able to showcase Deadlock during the next GDC in San Francisco: so let’s go back to work to make it happen!

Potion Pitcher is now online + New jams to come

After working again on it for a week or so, we finally polished and presented Potion Pitcher at the last Meet Up of the Montreal Game Society Club (December, 4th).

We are pretty satisfied with what we managed to do during the GAMERella game jam, especially as we actually had 24 hours to make it ^^

The concept is simple: you are an alchemist that must defend his tower from minions sent by a cruel witch named Grizelda.
To do so, you must throw potions at them, filled with one of 3 ‘primary’ colours: each minion being composed of 2 of these colours, you will have to match the corresponding combinations to destroy them completely.

I had a lot of fun codding the ‘wave algorithm’ used to spawn minions in each level with a little bit of randomness, plus adding codding some things to let the designer tweak each gameplay related variables.

The game has been polished and now features a leaderboard, you can play it > there <

Now it’s time to prepare for more jam events with the Ludum Dare n° 28 starting tonight and another jam organized by the TAG group this week-end at Concordia University (Montreal)!

Deadlock alpha has been released! (at last)

After multiple adventures and obstacles we had to overcome, we finally managed to publish Deadlock alpha version on Desura yesterday : )

You can find our game there:

Time flew at an incredible speed, the game became bigger than expected and it went beyond the 1st goal we planned (polishing the 7 Days FPS demo) to be closer to the 2nd one: making a ‘real’ game!

So what’s new in this version:

  • A new level has been integrated (3rd on 5 planned)
  • A new power-up, the Dash, can now be collected and it changes completely the way you’ll play the game
  • More polished art and sound assets
  • A new Speedrun Mode along with online Leaderboards to challenge players all over the world.

We will keep adding more stuff into the game: from now on updates should be released more frequently as we are almost done with the game structure and will be focused on adding content to the game (new levels, new enemies…).

But I don’t want to spoil you right now, it wouldn’t be fun…

By the way, our super sound designers made a SoundClound page so you can bring Deadlock original soundtrack in your headphones anytime, anywhere : )

I’m quite excited right now as I see more and more players playing the game, beating our best times and even finding new exploits we didn’t expect!

That’s really rewarding to watch people taking your game and showing you how you should actually be playing it: it’s like they were now part of the team as they are taking over the design of the game.

Hope future updates will keep bringing more players to enjoy the game!
